La dermatose nodulaire est une maladie infectieuse causée par le virus de la dermatose nodulaire (LSDV), qui appartient à la famille des Poxviridae et au genre capripox virus. Ce virus est antigéniquement très proche du virus de la variole du mouton et de la chèvre. Il affecte principalement le bétail, c’est-à-dire les bovins et les buffles d’eau. La période d’incubation est comprise entre 2 et 4 semaines.
Le mode de transmission du virus comprend principalement le contact direct de l’hôte sensible avec l’animal malade et les arthropodes tels que les moustiques, les mouches et les tiques. Les principaux symptômes comprennent une hypertrophie des ganglions lymphatiques, une forte fièvre, un larmoiement, des lésions nodulaires sur la peau et une diminution de la production laitière.
Dans le district de Dhamtari, au Chhattisgarh, six bovins ont été trouvés atteints de LSD. Le diagnostic de la maladie a été établi sur la base d’une combinaison de lésions cliniques et d’un diagnostic de laboratoire par RT-PCR. Les bovins présentant des signes cliniques importants ont été immédiatement séparés des animaux sains.
Tous les animaux ont été traités avec des antibiotiques, des analgésiques, de l’ivermectine et du complexe B pendant une semaine. Tous les animaux se sont rétablis après deux semaines de traitement. L’objectif de cet article était de montrer que le LSD pouvait être géré avec succès par un traitement opportun et l’isolement des animaux malades par rapport aux animaux sains afin d’éviter la propagation de la maladie. La vaccination est le moyen le plus efficace de contrôler la maladie.
